Squabbling among bishops

Gregory of Nazianzus, Bishop of Constantinople, tried in vain to unite bishops on disputed questions.

The bishops chattered like a flock of magpies. It was a childish hubbub, the noise of a workshop starting up, a dust storm, a real hurricane ...The discussion was chaotic; like wasps, they went straight for the face, all at the same time. Venerable gray beards, far from restraining the young, fell into line with them. Gregory of Nazianzus, Poem on his Life, 168off.
