Italian Fascism
We are in the presence here of a whole series of
authentic affirmations and no less authentic facts which beyond doubt aim at
and to such a considerable degree have already been successful in
monopolizing the young, from earliest childhood to adulthood, for the full
and exclusive use of a party and a regime. This is on the basis of an
ideology which is explicitly resolved on pagan statolatry (worship of the
state), real and proper, as much in conflict with the natural rights of the
family as with the supernatural rights of the state. For a Catholic, to
claim that the Church and the Pope must limit themselves to the external
practices of religion - the mass and the sacraments - and that the rest of
education belongs totally to the state, cannot be reconciled with Catholic
doctrine. Pius XI, Encyclical Non abbiamo bisogno, 29
June 1931.
